April 9, 2025
We’ve continued to monitor the reverification issues impacting Google Business Profiles and remain in close communication with Google to better understand and respond to these challenges.
As of April, Google has confirmed with us that updates to the following fields are very likely to trigger reverification:
- Primary Category
- Additional Category
- Switching from a storefront to a Service Area Business (SAB)
On the other hand, Google has clarified that updates to business hours and adding service areas (if already set as a Service Area Business) are unlikely to trigger reverification. At this time, Google has not confirmed the risk level for changes to other fields.
It’s important to note that Google continues to acknowledge this as an industry-wide issue that impacts updates made both through third-party platforms like SOCi and directly within the Google Business Profile Manager.
To help safeguard your listings, the SOCi platform now displays in-platform alerts when making updates to fields that are likely to trigger reverification.
We’ll continue to advocate for our customers, work closely with Google, and share new updates as we learn more.

March 21, 2025
A limited number of SOCi customers have reported that some locations became unverified after making updates through our platform. These instances are most often tied to changes in listings fields like business name, address, phone number, categories, or website URL.
This issue is not unique to SOCi. Similar reverifications have been observed across the industry since late 2024. Google has confirmed this issue occurs regardless of if updates are made via API or directly in Google Business Profile Manager.
On March 19, Google acknowledged a bug that caused a temporary spike in reverifications in recent weeks and issued a fix. While some listings have been restored, Google has since clarified that this fix does not resolve the broader issue reported last fall. Further investigation is underway, and we expect additional clarification from Google soon.
We are actively monitoring the situation, working closely with Google, and taking steps to ensure that our customers are informed. We’ll continue to provide updates as we learn more.
